POSITION DESCRIPTION AND APPLICANT CRITERIA

D.O.P.E. Publishing is looking for an Illustrator to support authors and aspiring authors with getting their dreams on paper. It's a freelance position, so you can take on as much or as little work as you can effectively commit to completing. Illustration needs for authors primarily consist of illustrations for children’s books, book cover art, and other collaborative book design requests.

A D.O.P.E. Publishing Illustrator will need to be proficient in using a variety of mediums, including: paint, charcoal, pencils, watercolors, pastels, or computer/digital programs and will need to be able to produce hand-drawn sketches for certain project needs.

THE ESSENTIALS OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Designing, Visual Arts or relevant field preferred. 

  • Advanced degree in related field a plus.

  • Strong history and years of experience as illustrator or similar role.

  • Create artistic hand-drawings which are self-explanatory, and develop rough drafts per the client’s needs.

  • Combine art, design, creative skills, and artistic skills to develop ideas.

  • Create original pieces of visual images for various products like children’s books and book covers.

  • Combine hand-drawings and digital paintings to create amazing illustrations.

  • Filter and refine draft designs with the help of illustration software.

  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator CC, DrawPlus X6, etc. to format pictures.

  • Strong knowledge of image editing tools and digital sketching software like Indesign and Adobe Illustrator.

  • Attend illustration program to help build your illustration skills, learn new technology and latest illustrators work.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve, build relationships, collaborate, and communicate effectively, both verbal and written.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Proven record of illustration projects with updated portfolio.
