GRAPHIC DESIGNER


POSITION DESCRIPTION AND APPLICANT CRITERIA

D.O.P.E. Publishing is looking for a Graphic Designer for both commercial and/or literary graphic design to support authors and aspiring authors with getting their dreams on paper. It's a freelance position, so you can take on as much or as little work as you can effectively commit to completing. Graphic design needs for authors typically consist of book cover designs and internal book art, as well as layout design options for journals, planners, and other book types.

D.O.P.E. Publishing services writers at all levels from novice to advanced, as well as multiple genres from self-help, fiction/non-fiction, and memoir to poetry, informational, biography, and children's books. D.O.P.E. publishes both e-books and hardcopy books, so a Graphic Designer will need to be able to produce a variety of graphic designs for various genres and purposes.

THE ESSENTIALS OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Strong history and years of experience working in print design and graphic design. Illustration skills are a plus.

  • Computer/technical knowledge for book production preferred.

  • A proficient hands-on background in Adobe Creative Suite CC.

  • Principally skilled in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Bridge, Acrobat Distiller, and Acrobat Pro.

  • Degree and/or certification in applicable content area preferred.

  • Strong understanding of typefaces and typography, design, and editorial page layout.

  • Proficiency in creative problem-solving, decision making, and time management.

  • Follows design and creative direction briefs.

  • Has creative ideas and is able to share and articulate the vision.

  • Maintains schedules and meets deadlines on assigned projects.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs.
